What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician Dr. John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system, which has been shown to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, as well as many other systems of the body, such as digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and more. CST has also been shown to help with the physical components related to such somatic conditions as PTSD, depression and anxiety.
What can CST help with?
By facilitating the body's natural and innate healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and has been shown to be beneficial for people seeking help with a wide range of healthcare challenges and symptoms including:
- headaches and migraines
- chronic pain
- motor-coordination impairments
- central nervous system (CNS) disorders
- orthopedic problems
- Alzheimer's disease
- spinal cord injuries
- conception, pregnancy, and birth
- pediatric challenges
- learning differences, ADD, and ADHD
- autism and sensory processing
- chronic fatigue
- emotional difficulties and depression
- stress and tension related problems
- fibromyalgia and other connective tissue disorders
- temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ)
- immune disorders
- post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- post-surgical dysfunction
- sleep challenges

Gloria Franklin-Piette, BSM, INCMT, Reiki Master Teacher, Craniosacral Therapist.
In another life, Glo was a passionate social worker who felt a calling to expand her healing gifts beyond the limited scope of bureaucratic processes. Beginning her new path in 1995, Glo spent a lot of time with the First Nations family, learning, growing, and expanding under the wings of the elders. During this time, Glo received a clear vision that she was to bring this healing to others.
In 1996, she became certified in the Usui lineage of Reiki therapy and continued training until she reached Master Teacher status in 1999. Glo expanded her healing offerings again in 2000 when she became a certified bodyworker and licensed massage therapist.
Moving through the cycles of life and honoring the later stages, Glo has put her bodywork practice to rest and has chosen to continue offering healing through the modality of craniosacral therapy. She received her certification through the Upledger Institute and offers her own specialized heart-centered therapy. Glo has 20 years of experience under her belt as is ready to get started with you to open your heart.
