Class Logistics
New to yoga? Don't worry - we've got you!
First of all, upon entering the studio (using the south door, in the patio, across the street from Valparaiso University), please leave your shoes, purses, coats, and any other items you do not need to bring in the room with you in the hallway. Please ensure that your phone is on SILENT or OFF all together. Phones are not to be taken into the room. If you are concerned about your belongings, please leave them in a locked vehicle.
In a typical vinyasa yoga class, you will start by laying on your mat, transitioning into slow, soft, passive poses. Eventually you will make your way onto your feet for an active, dynamic flow through various poses. At the end, you will wind down with another series of passive poses before lying completely still on your mat for the final rest that we call savasana.
Signing up in advance for classes is always best practice, but generally speaking, most of our classes still have available space for walk-ins. As the weather gets cooler, HOT classes tend to fill up very quickly, so be sure to snag your spot ahead of time. You can register for classes ahead of time via the MINDBODY app, through www.onevalpo.com/class-schedule/, or by arriving at least 15 minutes prior to class start time to register at the desk.
You should come to class wearing comfortable clothes that you can stretch and move around in and a bottle of water. If you have a yoga mat - bring it. If not, we have plenty of extras for you to use, free of charge, as well as blankets, blocks, bolsters, and straps.
If you are 5-10 minutes late for class, you may* be able to enter, but please enter the room quietly and respectfully. We do not allow entry after the ten-minute mark.
*We cannot guarantee that someone will still be at the front desk and able to let you in for class, so you may find the door locked upon late arrival.
To early-cancel your class reservation (which means the class will be put back onto your account for you to use at another time), please log into your account via the MINDBODY app and select 'Cancel Booking.' Please keep in mind that in order to get the class back onto your account, you must cancel 60 minutes prior to the class start time.
If you do not cancel your class before the 60 minute window, you will be charged for class.
At ONE, class 'levels' have never felt right because all of our teachers have been specially trained to teach to whomever shows up for their class that day. All teachers have training and experience in offering modifications and options to accommodate every student in every practice.
This is said with love - as a student, you have the final say in the difficulty level of your practice, no matter what class you're in. You always have the option to rest in child's pose or simply lie down on your mat. You always have the autonomy to shift into a different pose that serves you better. Just because the teacher does not cue it does not mean you aren't 'allowed' to do it. Practice curating your own experience within the larger container of class that we hold.
Our HOT Yoga classes are set to 102 degrees ambient, 100 degree floor heat, and supplemented with infrared ceiling panels. These are our best tips for HOT Yoga classes:
- bring a towel to place over your mat to maintain your grip if you aren't using a non-slip mat (the studio provided mats tend to be a little slippery)
- wear breathable, cool clothes to class
- bring plenty of water and be sure to take sips throughout your practice. You can always fill your water bottle back up in our kitchen.
- take child's pose when you need it - not just when the instructor cues it!
- if you start to feel unwell during class (lightheaded, dizzy, rapid heart rate) please come out into the lobby to cool down for a few moments and regain yourself. You can go back into class at anytime.

Studio Etiquette & Policies
If it's your first time coming to class or if you need to register at the desk, please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the class start time. Absolutely not. This is your time that you've chosen to disconnect with the outside world and reconnect with yourself. Phones are not only a distraction for you, but for other students and teachers as well. The only exceptions made to this rule are for emergency responders or hospital workers who are on-call.
We are still assessing our policy on smart watches and fitness trackers. We understand the desire to log your workouts, but when we see you clearly texting and checking notifications, it becomes something entirely different. Check yourself.
If you do not early cancel your class reservation yourself or at least initiate contact with us at least 60 minutes prior to the class start time, you will be considered a no-show / late-cancel for class. No-shows are not eligible for refunds, and the class will be otherwise docked from the package.
We absolutely do NOT tolerate aggressive or entitled actions, behavior, or language directed at any other student, staff member, or teacher. We reserve the right to deactivate your account with us and ask you to practice elsewhere if such a situation arises. As we always say - this is just yoga. Things like refunds, memberships, and packages can always be adjusted and fixed, as long as all parties operate respectfully and in good faith.
Facilities
ONE is a bit of a hidden gem. Our street address is 1605 Laporte Avenue, Valparaiso, Indiana 46383. Your GPS will likely get you close enough, but some helpful information to note:
- We are located at the opposite end of the strip as Jimmy John's, on the side closest to Valparaiso University
- We are in between Saint Teresa's Catholic Church (to our west) and Life Bridge Christian Church (to our east)
- Please enter our building by going through the swinging gate on our patio's east side and walk past the sliding glass doors on your right. The student entrance is on your right, in between two planters and Chinese Fu dog statues.
Yes! We have extra mats, blankets, blocks, bolsters, and straps for you to use, free of charge.
We have two spacious unisex restrooms that are well-suited for a quick, after-work change of clothes.
We do not sell water, however you're always welcome to bring an empty water bottle and fill it up in our kitchen with purified water from the filtered tap!
Generally, we use the very last storage cubby in our hallway (nearest the door) to store items left behind like clothes, water bottles, and mats. High-security items like phones, wallets, rings, and keys will be kept behind the front desk.
If you are missing a phone, you will be asked to correctly confirm the wallpaper of the lock screen before we return it to you. If you are missing a wallet, please bring another form of identification to verify that it is yours. If you are missing a sentimental piece of jewelry, you will be asked to describe it.
Please be aware that we will only store the items in our hallway lost and found for a minimum of 1-2 months before disposal.
Special Events + Workshops
Visit www.onevalpo.com/enrollments, book through the MINDBODY app, or reach out to [email protected] to register at least 3-4 business days prior to the event.
Please be proactive about registering for a special event or workshop that calls to you. Too many times we've had students reaching out at the very last minute, and we aren't checking inboxes as we focus on preparing for the event in the hours beforehand.
No, special events are not included in memberships or class packages - after all, they wouldn't be 'special' if they were!
However, Unlimited Members DO get 10% off all special event registrations!
Thank you for your interest in our space. We are a small, intentionally curated studio with a very limited calendar. We do not accept unsolicited pitches for workshops, trainings, or special events.
If and when we are seeking guest facilitators, we will reach out directly to those whose work aligns with our current vision and community needs.
We ask that you please respect our boundaries and avoid cold calls, drop-ins, or promotional messages sent through personal or business contact forms.

If you have an acute, minor injury or condition (especially pregnancy), please feel free to gently approach the instructor prior to the class start time and say, "Hey, I have ______ going on - I just wanted to let you know. Is there anything I can do to modify my practice for it?"
If you have a medical condition (heart conditions, bone-related issues like osteoporosis or osteopenia, glaucoma, pregnancy, and certain musculoskeletal problems like sciatica or arthritis) that could potentially complicate your practice, you must receive medical clearance from a professional prior to practicing with us.
